We are watching the growth of Death Cafe and what is a Death Cafe?

With a Death Cafe, the idea is to get people from all backgrounds together over tea, coffee and delicious cake, to simply talk about death, a normal aspect of life that is generally feared by our culture. The hope of the Death Cafe movement is to simply normalize this phase of life by allowing groups of people to talk about death. A Death Cafe is not a support group or a means of selling services, but is instead a simple social gathering. Check out this group - Learn More

Attended the Denver & Boulder Senior Law Days & had a great time!

For those of you that missed these events, put them on your calendar for next year.

For 2014 the Colorado Bar Association worked together with many, many volunteers and hosted events in 10 locations in Colorado from the Grand Junction and the Western Slope to Pueblo County, El Paso County and Arapahoe/Douglas Counties and Boulder, Denver, Jefferson, Larimer, Chaffee and N.W. Colorado. Kudos to all of the volunteers which included both non-profits, for-profits and community volunteers of all ages and of course, the Colorado Bar Association staff.

Don't forget that you can access the Colorado Senior Law Handbook online - CLICK HERE

As a basic explanation of Colorado Senior Law Days, these event are educational seminars combined with resource fairs about services important to seniors, boomers, adult children and professionals serving seniors.

Each law day location interviews possible local presenters and selects a variety of topics and presenters. Some of the presentation topics at this years' events ranged from estate planning, understanding Medicaid Long-Term care, fraud prevention, State Legislature updates, Medicare resources, probate, advanced directives, family mediation, financial planning, senior housing options, aging in place and much more.

This year the various law day groups also worked hard to get some impressive keynote speakers. Here are a few of the 2014 keynote speakers:
Denver - Denver District Attorney, Mitch Morrissey
Boulder - Colorado Supreme Court Justice, Nancy E. Rice

Grand Junction - Chief District Court Judge, David A. Bottger
Pueblo - Supreme Court Justice, Gregory Hobbs

At the Boulder Senior Law Day, Seniors Resource Guide was invited to share their Medicare Basics Video Series. This was a "drop-in" presentation. We had an excellent response to the videos. We were also fortunate to have Medicare insurance specialists drop in to answer questions.

Take a look at our Medicare Basics Video Series that we shared:

Donate to Alzheimer's Association with your 2013 Colorado Tax Return

Don't know if it is in all States but you can in Colorado ... Donate to the Alzheimer's Association with your 2013 tax return. If you are getting a refund for 2013 you can donate a dollar or more to the Alzheimer’s Association Fund on the Colorado State tax form. Here is a link to information on Colorado's "Tax Check off Colorado" program - Click Here

And did a little more digging and Colorado actually has a "CheckOff Colorado - A Simple Way to Give" program that works with Colorado State tax returns.

Checkoff Colorado is a statewide public awareness campaign that works to raise awareness about making charitable contributions. The program allows taxpayers to make voluntary contributions to their favorite charitable organizations when they file their state income tax return. Learn more at the program's website:
www.CheckOffColorado.com

(the website is slow to resolve - at least it is slow today!)

In any case - Way to go Colorado!

By the way other charitable groups are participating in the program besides the Alzheimer's Association. Review the list of participants on the group's website.

And here is a Facebook page about the group - Click Here

The Alzheimer's Association & Their 10 Warning Signs Presentation

Have to share that we had a tremendous presentation from the Alzheimer's Association at a networking meeting in Denver this week. If anyone either suspects Alzheimer’s Disease for themselves or a family member, contact the Alzheimer's Association to attend one of these events.
